Sotheby’s will launch Natively Digital, a curated online auction of non-fungible token, or NFT, art by leading digital artists next month, highlighted by Kevin McCoy’s Quantum, 2014—which Sotheby’s says is the first NFT. 

The sale will be a kind of a mini-retrospective of digital art and NFTs, representing a range of art and artists, says Michael Bouhanna, a contemporary art specialist at Sotheby’s. The available works will include early NFTs, art from digital pop/futurists, generative, conceptual and emerging NFT artists, and “community-elected” artists, according to Sotheby’s.
